Police seek man suspected of assaulting Santa Fe Springs liquor store clerk

WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- Whittier police are searching for a man suspected of assaulting a liquor store clerk in Santa Fe Springs.

Around 7:50 p.m. on Oct. 9, a suspect walked into a liquor store in the 12600 block of Imperial Highway. He asked the clerk behind the cash register if he could use his cellphone.

When the clerk said no, the suspect became enraged and destroyed the cash register and several items on the counter. He then picked up a porcelain mug and threw it at the clerk, striking him in the head, police said.

The clerk sustained minor injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital. Authorities believe the suspect may frequent the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Imperial Highway.

The investigation was ongoing.
