WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- A hit-and-run suspect who allegedly struck and killed an 83-year-old woman as she tried to cross a street in Whittier surrendered to authorities Tuesday.
Porfiria Giles Salgado of Whittier was fatally struck near Telegraph Road and Gunn Avenue at about 7:24 p.m. Monday. She had just dropped off her 10-year-old granddaughter at a Zumba class.
Justin Michael Brooks, 22, walked into the Norwalk Sheriff's Station and surrendered peacefully, California Highway Patrol officials said. He was subsequently booked for felony hit-and-run.
Brooks is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday morning. He's being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
