FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities are hoping the public can help them find a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a jogger in Fountain Valley.

Fountain Valley police said the victim was running on the curb line around Mile Square Park on Brookhurst Street around 9 p.m. Authorities said the car struck the jogger near the intersection of Brookhurst and Heil streets, then took off.

"A light-colored SUV involved, which fled the scene. Based on physical evidence obtained at the scene, we've determined it may be a Ford SUV," Sgt. Kham Vang said.

The path around the park is constantly busy with joggers, dog walkers and people on bicycles. Ban Oweis comes to the area every morning with her daughter. She said cars often speed around the park, making it dangerous.

"I mean Brookhurst looks like a highway...it is crazy," she said.

Police are urging witnesses to come forward to help in the case.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Fountain Valley Police Department at (714) 593-4485.
