MAR VISTA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A woman is dead and a man is in the hospital Thursday night, following an apparent shooting that remains under investigation in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles.

Firefighters and police responded to a home in the 4200 block of S. Corinth Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived, authorities found a 67-year-old woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound, authorities from the LAPD said.

A 75-year-old man, who neighbors say is the husband of the victim, was found unconscious after possibly trying to overdose. Police would not confirm details on the two's relationship.

Neighbor Maria Arevalo said the couple were great friends and neighbors. She said she watched as the man was transported into an ambulance.

"I seen when the ambulance came over and they got Tom in the ambulance. I tried to talk to Tom, but he didn't talk to me," Arevalo said, as she appeared emotional.

The devastated neighbor waited outside, hoping to get more answers about what happened.

Investigators said it was not yet clear whether the man was involved in the woman's death.

No arrests were immediately made but a weapon was found in the home, police said.
