The CHP received a call of a solo vehicle crash involving a black Mercedes-Benz at Baldwin Avenue around 9 a.m. Saturday. A preliminary investigation determined that the car had crashed into the sound wall along the right shoulder.
Responding officers then found that the driver, only described as being around 40 years old, had been shot at least once. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP declared a SigAlert at the crash site shortly after, adding that lanes would remain shut down for eight hours. All lanes were reopened by around 6 p.m.
The circumstances that led to the shooting were unclear, a spokesperson for the Highway Patrol said. No suspect was in custody and the investigation was ongoing, the spokesperson said.
