GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- A person was in custody for allegedly leaving a toilet at the Americana mall that triggered a bomb scare and an evacuation Thursday night.

The Glendale mall was evacuated Thursday night as police investigated the painted toilet that was left outside the movie theater.

Police started evacuating the area around 8 p.m. after a note was found which claimed the toilet was a bomb.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bomb squad was investigating the object, left outside the AMC theaters.

The white toilet was painted with various street-art style designs in red, yellow and other colors.

A digital sign propped up on a stand near the toilet read "Beautification in progress" but it was not clear if that electronic monitor was related to the toilet or to other work ongoing at the Americana.

Shortly after 10 p.m., Glendale police announced a male suspect had been arrested in Burbank who was believed to be responsible for leaving the toilet at the mall. The person's identity and suspected motive were not immediately available.
