Curious blue whale, calf approach boat in Newport Beach

There was a rare sighting of a blue whale with her calf right off the Southern California coastline over the weekend.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- There was a rare sighting of a blue whale with her calf right off the Southern California coastline over the weekend.

The pair approached a Newport Coastal Adventure whale-watching boat on Saturday in Newport Beach.

The curious calf was even larger than the 36-foot-long boat.

After checking it out for bit, the baby whale then made a beeline back to its mother's side.
