The incident started around 2:40 p.m. in the 2100 block of Aranbe Avenue when authorities stopped a man near his home. The 20-year-old appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamines, authorities said, and he was armed with an assault rifle.

Earlier reports indicated the suspect shot at deputies, but no one was injured. A containment area was quickly set up by SEB who assisted deputies.
The suspect, later identified as Ricardo Zendejas, then barricaded himself outside of a fenced home and remained on the side of the garage with a large semi-automatic rifle. Footage from AIR7 HD captured the suspect talking to someone inside the home he was next to.
Eventually, SEB deputies subdued the suspect by shooting him at least twice.
The man was hit in the stomach and side of the head and fell to the ground. Authorities entered the property and appeared to be performing chest compressions on the man.
Paramedics wheeled the man off on a stretcher, placed him in an ambulance and took him to a nearby hospital. The suspect appeared to have blood on his face after being hit by one of the rounds.
A distraught woman, later identified as the suspect's mother, screamed "Ricardo" as he was being wheeled into the ambulance.

Los Angeles sheriff's officials later tweeted that the "threat was neutralized" after the suspect was "struck by gunfire."
The residents in that home were evacuated after the situation so that authorities could continue their investigation.
Authorities said Thursday night that the suspect was on life support at a hospital.
Neighbors said the suspect had recently gotten out of jail and they're not sure what led him to arm himself.
The investigation was ongoing.
