Authorities initially told Eyewitness News the crash involved a police pursuit, but the Los Angeles Police Department later said officers were trying to stop a reckless driving suspect and were not chasing the car.

Police say the suspect driver ran away after the collision, but was taken into custody shortly thereafter. A passenger was also in custody.

Another passenger, who was armed with a gun, is still on the loose, police said.

Multiple ambulances responded to the scene.
