Emergency crews responded to a crash involving an SUV at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Gambier Street just before 3 a.m. They found a sheared fire hydrant and downed electrical wires in front of El Sereno Middle School.
Power was shut off in the area, with 1,657 customers affected, LADWP officials said. There was no word on a water outage.
All power was restored by 5:30 a.m., officials said.
No serious injuries were reported in the crash, but there was extensive flooding on the street.
Eastern Avenue was temporarily shut down in both directions as crews worked to clear the scene. The street was back open before 6 a.m.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
