Pantone Color Institute unveiled on Thursday its choice for the upcoming color of the year, "PANTONE 15-0343 Greenery."

Pantone's choice is made by color experts analyzing trends in fashion, film, technology and more. The "life-affirming" color also has a symbolic meaning for the social and political climate, the Institute explained.
"Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose," the announcement reads.
"Greenery" is a specific shade of "tangy yellow-green," but green in general is trendy for a variety of reasons, the Associated Press and the New York Times note.
Though green may typically be a difficult color to wear, some are embracing it, notably Julianne Moore at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The "green in fashion" trend isn't just for clothing, it's for hair. Kylie Jenner dyed hers earlier this year.
Green is big in tech and adds a pop of colors to everything from logos to head buds, the Associated Press points out. In automotive, both Skoda and Mercedes unveiled green cars for next year.

Finally, green is trendy because of its connection to environmental movements like recycling and organic food.
Above all, green is about a fresh start, the Institute said.
"Through its reassuring yet assertive vibrancy, Greenery offers us self-assurance and boldness to live life on our own terms, during a time when we are redefining what makes us successful and happy."
