The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the beach near 21st Street and The Strand at about 7:01 a.m. and confirmed the body of a man had been recovered from the water.
Police say the man had suffered a gunshot wound and his body was floating in the water. It was not immediately known how the body got there or if foul play was involved.
Hermosa Beach Police Department detectives are working with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's crime lab and Coroner's investigator. No further details were immediately known.
Authorities urge people to stay away from the area.
