Wild donkeys invade Highgrove intersection

HIGHGROVE, Calif. (KABC) -- A herd of wild donkeys swarmed an intersection in Highgrove Thursday night.

There were about 50 of the wild animals around Center Street and Mount Vernon Avenue. Last summer, Riverside County Animal Services rounded up many of the small donkeys to protect them from getting hit by cars and trains in the area.

The county's board of supervisors approved a plan to fine people for interacting with the burros. Anyone who feeds or draws a burro into a populated area will have to pay between $100 and $500.
