Orange County protests: Gatherings in Huntington Beach, Santa Ana broken up by police

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Multiple demonstrations were held throughout Orange County on Sunday. While they were mostly peaceful, there were some disruptions that led to authorities declaring unlawful assemblies.

Events in Huntington Beach and Santa Ana both grew unruly. In Santa Ana, police declared an unlawful assembly and starting making arrests after bottles were thrown and crowds approached buildings like the county jail complex and sheriff's headquarters.

In Huntington Beach, about 500 people gathered around Pacific Coast Highway and Main Street, including a number of counterprotesters. As conflicts between the two groups escalated, police declared an unlawful assembly and asked people to disperse.

In Irvine, several hundred people peacefully protested outside of city hall.

A peaceful demonstration was also held in San Clemente.
