The shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. after Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 300 block of Kenmore Avenue, between Third and Fourth streets.

"Upon arrival officers saw a woman attacking a man with a knife and an Officer Involved Shooting occurred," the LAPD said in a statement.
The woman was struck by officers' gunfire and transported to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. She was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive, authorities said. She was identified only as being in her 20s.
The victim sustained minor lacerations caused by the woman and was treated at the scene, the LAPD said.
The relationship between the man and woman and the reason for the altercation was unknown, police said. The knife found at the scene will be entered as evidence.

No officers were injured during the shooting, police said.
The area between Kenmore and Third and Fourth streets was closed while police conducted their investigation of the shooting.
