Officers were called to the 17300 block of Sherman Way about 7 a.m. for a man in an alley carrying a machete, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"Officers gave the suspect commands to drop the machete, which he failed to comply," said LAPD Sgt. Bruce Borihanh. "The suspect advanced toward an officer. That's when an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken into custody."
Video from AIR7 HD showed firefighter-paramedics loading a man on a gurney into an ambulance in an alley at the scene.
A machete was on the ground at the scene.

The man, identified only as being about 20 years old, was transported to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, according to LAPD spokesperson Officer Tony Im.
Police later confirmed the man died at the hospital.
No officers were injured in the confrontation.
