Suspected DUI driver leads authorities on hours-long slow-speed chase through San Gabriel Valley

DUARTE, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspected DUI driver was taken into custody late Friday night after leading authorities on an hours-long, slow-speed chase throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

The pursuit started in the Monterey Park area and made its way northeast.

The driver was mostly traveling at fairly slow speeds, both on surface streets and on the 605 Freeway.

There were at least four times when the suspect made a complete stop at stop signs. At one point, the suspect rolled down the window and made gestures at officers, though it's unclear what the suspect was attempting to tell them.

For the majority of the pursuit, the driver stayed in the San Gabriel Valley area, mostly in Duarte.

After nearly two hours of driving through several parts of the San Gabriel Valley, the driver surrendered to California Highway Patrol officers after they deployed a spike strip and used less than lethal weapons on him at Huntington Drive and Encanto Parkway in Duarte.
