Aura Ortega said she was taking a walk around 12:30 p.m. when she passed a man near 21st Street and Pine Avenue. She said she was talking on the phone when suddenly, she was hit in the back of her head.
She began bleeding profusely after being struck with what she believes was a metal pipe.
"[I said,] 'Somebody help me!'" recalled Ortega.
The victim's daughter, Jessica Cerda, said she rushed home after receiving the frantic call from her mother.
"She told me what happened and I came as soon as possible, and then when I saw her, I was like, 'Oh my God!'" said Cerda.
Police believe the suspect who assaulted Ortega is the same man caught on surveillance footage attacking a separate woman who was pushing a child in a stroller near 21st Street and Locust Avenue. That incident happened less than three hours before Ortega was attacked.

In footage obtained by Eyewitness News, the suspect is seen walking behind the woman as she pushed her stroller. He then runs up behind her and hits her across the head with a weapon.
"When I saw the video, it actually made me mad," said Juan Rivas, who lives in the neighborhood where the attacks occurred. "[It] really made me mad. Hopefully, police catch him. He needs to pay for this."
Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s. He was last seen wearing a white hat, and a turquoise sweater over a black hooded sweater. He was also seen carrying a black backpack.
"Many people here [are] really angry with this. The neighbors, everybody right here, because we can't believe that happened ... twice!" said Cerda.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Long Beach Police Department.
