Crime in LA County down from last year, sheriff's department says

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Crime in Los Angeles County is down from last year, according to newly released numbers from the sheriff's department.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department released the latest figures Thursday morning.

Overall, crime is down 4.6 percent from last year.

In specific crimes, the largest drop was in criminal homicide, which is down 20.5 percent from last year.

The next largest decrease was in arson, which dropped 11.9 percent.

Larceny-theft is down 6.2 percent, and reported rapes dropped 4.5 percent from 2016.
