FRESNO, Calif. -- The USGS said a 4.1 earthquake struck about 20 miles southeast of Mammoth Lakes, California near the Nevada border.
Within 30 minutes, a second earthquake, measured at a preliminary magnitude of 2.9.
The two temblors were preceded by a 3.7-magnitude quake earlier Friday in the same location.

The area at the center of the earthquakes is near the remote town of Toms Place along Highway 395.
USGS maps of the area show the earthquake struck in a cluster of faults between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes.

There were no immediate reports damage or injuries.
