Thursday, December 8, 2016
MICHIGAN (KABC) -- Three people died and 11 others were hurt in a snowy 40-car pile-up on a Michigan highway Thursday morning.

Authorities said the multiple-car crash happened around 9:47 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 96 in Livingston County.

The identities of those killed were not released, and the 11 others who were hurt suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The freeway was closed for more than 12 hours, according to WXYZ-TV. Police said slick roads and white-out conditions from snow were factors in the crashes.
