1-year-old child dies from drowning in pool at Sierra Recreation Center in Mission Viejo

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (KABC) -- A 1-year-old child has died from drowning at the Sierra Recreation Center in Mission Viejo.

City officials said the drowning occurred Sunday night. The child was at the recreation center with parents and friends at the time of the incident, authorities said.

Efforts to revive the child were unsuccessful.

Officials said the pool will be closed until further notice.
