NORCO, Calif. (KABC) -- A 32-year-old Norco woman is facing murder charges after her 17-month-old's death.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, patrol deputies on Tuesday around 3:30 p.m. were called to Jennifer Johanna Allen's home on 8th Street. They found the child unconscious and unresponsive.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate the child, but it was too late.

Investigators say evidence indicates fentanyl played a role in the child's death, but additional details were not available. Deputies say they have evidence to suggest the mother was neglectful and caused her own baby to die.

Allen was later arrested for murder and was expected to appear in court Thursday morning for arraignment. For reasons unknown at this time, she was not transported to the courthouse, so the court hearing was postponed.

ABC7 spoke with family members at the house, but they didn't want to make a statement.
