NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An underground electrical explosion shattered windows and shook buildings in North Hollywood early Thursday, but did not cause any serious injuries.

The explosion happened after 7 a.m. in the 5600 block of North Farmdale Avenue, in a garden space in front of a three-story, 37-unit building, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

No fire occurred, and no injuries were reported, the LAFD said.

The department said the "forceful blast, heard over a wide area" expelled concrete debris, damaging the exterior of the building and breaking multiple apartment windows.

Some residents said it felt like an earthquake.

The cause of the blast is under investigation.
