LAPD officers fatally shoot man they say charged at them with knife in Northridge

NORTHRIDGE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles police officers shot and killed a man who allegedly charged at them with a knife on Sunday in Northridge, the LAPD says.

The incident happened around 11:18 a.m. Sunday in the area of Malden Street and Canby Avenue.

The LAPD says patrol officers with the Devonshire division were speaking to a man who was standing near the exterior stairwell of an apartment complex.

The department says while the officers were talking with the man he armed himself with a knife and charged at them. They shot and struck him.



They began rendering aid and requested an ambulance but Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics declared the man dead at the scene.

No other injuries to officers or bystanders were reported. The knife was recovered. The incident remains under investigation.
