1 man killed, 3 hospitalized after being shot while painting over graffiti in Northridge

The suspect is believed to have driven up to the four men in white sedan, got out of the car and opened fire.

NORTHRIDGE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One man was killed and three men were hospitalized after being shot Saturday afternoon in Northridge, authorities said.

The incident was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m. in the 19100 block of Parthenia Street.

Two of the victims had offered to paint graffiti off the wall of a local ice cream shop for free, and then just a few minutes later, surveillance video shows the four men ducking from gunshots.

The video shows one of the victims walking back to the ice cream shop, seeking help.

"The guys walked in. They said, 'There is graffiti on the wall. Do you want me to paint the graffiti for you, for free,'" said Victor Santoyo, the owner of Northridge Ice Cream. "I found them a little bit of paint and gave it to them, and then a few minutes later, we hear the gunshots. One guy came in, asking for help. He got shot in the stomach."

The suspect is believed to have driven up to the four men in white sedan, got out of the car and opened fire.

The suspect then drove away.

Police and Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene. The four patients were then transported to a medical center.



One of the men shot remains in critical condition, police said. Two others underwent surgery, one of whom has already been released from the hospital. The suspected shooter was last seen heading west on Parthenia Street. A description of the suspect was not immediately available.

The area has since been cleared of police presence, but the LAPD is asking for anyone to send over anymore video or information that could lead to the finding of the suspect.
