Officers found a 23-year-old man dead about a block away, in the 70 block of Pepper Street, and a few minutes later, paramedics were called to another shooting victim nearby. A 38-year old woman had run to a local fire station and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
"We have some weapons at or near the scene of the shooting. We don't know yet who in fact those weapons belong to. We don't know who our suspects are as of right now. We're still searching and canvassing," Lt. Vasken Gourdikian said.
At about the same time, there was a car crash at the intersection of California Boulevard and St. John Avenue, where police found two people shot in a vehicle. One of them was found lifeless and the other was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Family members said the two victims in the car were possibly being driven to the hospital after being shot, but the driver of the car crashed into another vehicle. The condition of the driver was not known.

A friend of the shooting victims said she didn't know what caused the violence but the group of people attended a vigil Friday night for another friend who was killed a few weeks ago. It was unclear if there was an altercation at the event that may have led to the gunfire.
The identities of the victims were being withheld pending proper notification to families.
"We have four victims, two who are deceased. We don't know what their relations to one another are," Gourdikian said.
Pasadena police detectives said weapons were recovered at the scene on Claremont Street. They were investigating the shootings as a double-homicide.
No arrests have been made.
