PEARBLOSSOM, Calif. (KABC) -- A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man armed with a "sharp object" at a gas station Friday morning in the Antelope Valley, authorities said.

Deputies responded about 6:45 a.m. to a "assault with a deadly weapon, person with a knife, at one of the businesses,'' in the 13000 block of Pearblossom Highway, just west of Longview Road, sheriff's Lt. Patricia Thomas told reporters at the scene.

The suspect, identified only as a man, was believed to be armed, possibly with a knife, and was uncooperative before the shooting occurred, authorities initially said. Thomas later said he had "a sharp object."

The fatally wounded individual was transported to a hospital, where he died, Thomas said.

Video from AIR7 HD appeared to show blood on the ground near the entrance to a convenience store at a Shell gas station at the scene.
