Vandalism suspect taken into custody after pursuit across Southern California

BELL GARDENS (KABC) -- A vandalism suspect and passenger were taken into custody after a police pursuit on Southern California surface streets and freeways Friday night.

The pursuit, involving a blue Suzuki sedan, was reported just before 10 p.m. near the 5200 block of Southall Lane in Bell Gardens.

Police said the suspect was armed earlier and at least least one weapon was tossed out of the vehicle. The weapon was later recovered.

Police said the suspect was wanted for vandalism.

Several police vehicles could be seen following the car which made its way to the Inglewood area just before 11 p.m.

Bystanders were seen throwing an object at the vehicle as it made its way through residential neighborhoods.

Just before 11:30 p.m., the pursuit ended when the driver pulled into the intersection of Florence and Santa Fe avenues in Huntington Park where he and the passenger were taken into custody.

Police say the driver was charged with felony evading and the passenger is facing charges for vandalism, tagging and being in possession of an illegal firearm.

The driver and the passenger have not yet been identified.
