CANOGA PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two people were hospitalized after an apartment building erupted in flames in Canoga Park early Tuesday morning.

The fire started just after 2:30 a.m. on Bryant Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. It took dozens of firefighters nearly 30 minutes to extinguish the flames.

At least two units on both floors of the apartment complex were left severely damaged.

Officials initially said two people who were on the second floor when the fire broke out jumped out of the burning building, but later said that did not happen.

A total of eight people were medically assessed, according to the LAFD. Two were transported, but details on their condition were not available.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
