Man accused of stabbing his mother and father during argument in Woodland Hills

WOODLAND HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man was taken into custody Wednesday morning after stabbing his parents during an argument, including his father, who was briefly held hostage by the suspect in Woodland Hills, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 8:40 a.m. in the 24000 block of Hatteras Street, in a residential neighborhood just west of Valley Circle Boulevard.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing and detained the 34-year-old suspect, who was armed with a knife, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.

According to investigators on the scene, the suspect and his father got into some sort of altercation over an upcoming court date. The suspect reportedly didn't want to go.

During the altercation, the suspect's mother became involved and was stabbed. The son was stabbed in the back, though it's unclear by who. The parents were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries while the son suffered moderate injuries.



Video from AIR7 showed firefighter-paramedics treating a man who was sitting on a curb at the scene and several police officers stood nearby. Whether the man was the suspect or a victim was unclear.



Police told Eyewitness News the suspect suffers from mental health issues though further details weren't immediately released.

The incident remains under investigation.
