MAYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A married couple and their young son were found dead in a burning home early Saturday after an apparent murder-suicide shooting in Maywood, authorities said.

Los Angeles County firefighters responded to a fire around 2:25 a.m. on the 5000 block of East 61st Street where they saw smoke coming from a two-story residence and located three deceased people inside the building, said Deputy Phillip Arellano of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

Three bodies were found with gunshot wounds, later identified as a man and woman in their late 40s and a boy under the age of 10, said Lt. Eric Arias of the sheriff's Homicide Bureau.

The incident appeared to be domestic in nature, and no suspect was being sought, the lieutenant said.

A handgun was found in the room where the three deceased individuals were, the sheriff's department said. Their identities were not immediately released.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the father was the shooter, according to Arias.

The fire began on the first floor, investigators said, but further details about the cause of the blaze were not available.
