The quake struck around 3.7 miles east of Lake Elsinore shortly before 9:40 a.m., USGS said. A magnitude-3.0 aftershock quickly followed.
Shaking was felt in the region. A building at Prospect and Main sustained some damage on the façade. But so far, no serious damage was reported anywhere else.
Lake Elsinore Mayor Steve Manos took to social media, saying there's been no disruption in utility services and that the city is checking for structural damage.
The quake was also felt in Glendora and San Clemente.
