Both sides of the freeway were closed at Verdugo Avenue for more than an hour amid the afternoon rush hour.
The California Highway Patrol announced an hour-long closure around 6 p.m., but the Sigalert was later extended. However, the freeway reopened by 7:30 p.m.
Northbound and southbound traffic was diverted during the closure.
AIR7 was over the scene as traffic was stopped in both directions. The traffic backup extended for miles.
