Reported chase ends in fiery crash on 710 Fwy in Long Beach; 1 dead after dramatic rescues

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Multiple lanes of the northbound 710 Freeway in Long Beach were shut down overnight after a reported police chase ended in a fiery crash, prompting some dramatic rescues.

Long Beach police Monday night were chasing a driver who crashed with a semi-truck near the Anaheim Street exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Additional details about the reported pursuit were not available, but the car involved burst into flames after the crash. Video from the scene shows the moments officers rushed toward the burning car before they pulled the people inside to safety.

Four people were injured and transported to multiple hospitals. The CHP later confirmed that one of them died at at the hospital, but the condition of the others was unclear.

The crash caused a full closure of the northbound lanes around 10:40 p.m. Monday, according to a traffic log. All lanes were reopened by 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
