GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- The memories came flooding back as I hit the halls of Holy Family Grade School.

"This is a full circle moment for me," ABC7 anchor Jovana Lara said.

"I was in third grade in this very same classroom when I first started here at Holy Family."

Welcoming me back to my alma mater was Dr. Fidela Suelto, who leads the campus as principal during a milestone year: the school's 100th anniversary.

Much has changed since I went to school here, and certainly over the last century.

New toddler and kindergarten classes, after-school programs, and the building and classrooms? Now modernized, integrating technology.

Every student has access to iPads, a computer lab, and MakerSpace for robotics buffs.

"It's about coding, right?" Jovana asked.

"Yeah, coding, time and dedication," a student replied, as he sorted through parts for his robot creation.

Yet, there are still things that remain the same after all these years, including that sense of family and community I felt as a student at Holy Family.

Many alums are returning these days to enroll their own kids.

"They're coming in and saying, 'Mrs. Nelson, are you still there?'" kindergarten teacher and vice principal Teresa Nelson said. "'I want to bring my children to Holy Family. Will you be their teacher?'"

I had a favorite Holy Family teacher of my own, Ms. Roberta Fox.

"When I think of Holy Family Elementary, I think of you," Jovana said.

"When you were in third grade, Jovana, you said, 'I'm going to be famous one day. I'm going to be on TV,' and you did," Fox remembered. "But look what you achieved."

While reconnecting via video chat, Fox said she had high hopes back then.

"I wanted you to have choices in life, I wanted you to be able to go out and I didn't care what you did for a living as long as it was your choice," Fox said.

Another thing that hasn't changed? Students are still reading the morning announcements as I did way back when.

"This is your receptionist, Annalise Villa, from the lobby, inviting you to another fantastic day at our resort of learning and growth," a student said during her morning broadcast.

"I think the strength of this school is our mission and the people," Principal Suelto said.

Dr. Suelto, now in her 16th year as principal, wasn't my principal back then, but she dug into old student records and told me something I didn't know.

"Language arts, expression, composition writing were your best subjects," Suelto said. "We're so proud of you."
