Murrieta brush fire: Crews stop forward progress on blaze after evacuations issued

MURRIETA, Calif. (KABC) -- A brush fire in Murrieta led to evacuation orders and burned more than 70 acres before crews stopped its forward progress.

The Alamos Fire was reported at 3:22 p.m. Friday on the north side of Los Alamos Hills Sports Park, near the intersection of Los Alamos Road and Ruth Ellen Way, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The fire grew to about 72 acres. City officials announced forward progress was stopped as of 5:20 p.m., but containment was at 0%.

Some evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings.

It's unclear what caused the fire.
