Altadena man who has bear living underneath his home gets surprise visit from another bear

ALTADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A man who's working to get a 500-pound bear out from underneath his Altadena home got another surprise: a visit from another bear.

Ken Johnson, a local product photographer, said the second bear stopped by his home around 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

Video shared with Eyewitness News shows the animal walking up to his driveway and turning around.

The first bear has been living in the crawl space underneath Johnson's kitchen for the past week.

"I thought he'd be long gone by now. It's unnerving," he said. "I think the longer he's there, the more comfortable he's going to be, and this won't end."

Some residents believe the Eaton Fire destroyed the bear's home, which is why it now roams their neighborhood looking for shelter and food.

The size of the bear underneath his home, which is tagged, is what concerns Johnson. He's working on a plan to draw the bear out of the crawl space then block the entrance with sandbags.

Johnson contacted the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), which said it's aware of the situation and will determine the next steps, which could include capturing the bear and transporting it back up to the mountains.
