It all started around 11 a.m. Monday following a report of a person with a handgun who was experiencing mental health issues at the home on Blue Sky Court, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. That person was believed to be barricaded inside the home.
Authorities believe the suspect pointed the weapon at someone, but additional details were not available. The sheriff's department confirmed that no one was being held hostage.
Personnel with the department's Special Enforcement Bureau and crisis negotiators responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m. to try and make contact with the suspect, but the barricade situation continued overnight.
Armed man barricaded inside Lancaster home for hours, nearby homes evacuated
Several armored law enforcement vehicles and officers in tactical gear were seen staged near the home Tuesday morning.
Just before 6 a.m., authorities said the situation had concluded and that someone was found dead inside the home. It's unclear if that person was the suspect or possible victim.
AIR7 was over the scene where it appears the sheriff's department used their heavy equipment to tear down the backside of the home. It's unclear how the man died or why authorities ripped open the wall.
At least three other homes in the area were evacuated during the standoff, and streets in the area were closed, leaving residents unable to go home for hours.
