On a busy Wednesday morning, the last to step on took a bit of a misstep, lost his footing and found himself wedged between the train and the platform. The gap less than 4 inches.
The incident was captured in footage released by the Western Australia State Public Transport Authority.
Local media said a passenger quickly alerted staff to hold the train from leaving.
"We all stuck our heads out and someone just yelled out, 'a guy's leg is caught in the train,'" one passenger said.
Instead of waiting for help, passengers sprang into action. Passengers on the train moved to the other side in hopes of tipping the train and freeing the man. When that didn't work, they all pitched in and began pushing.
More than 50 people stopped what they were doing or where they were going to help free the man. Men, women, young and old, using nothing more than "people power."
The man was rescued and then escorted out to an ambulance to be checked out. He was believed to have escaped injury and caught the next train.
"I think he was more embarrassed about the incident then hurt, so he kind of quickly ran out," one passenger said.
Only about 15 minutes behind schedule, the train pulled out, and took the volunteer rescue squad back to their day jobs.
