The grim discovery was made on Sept. 8 after police responded to a tow yard near Mansfield Avenue and Romaine Street in Hollywood.
Officers went to investigate a foul odor coming from the Tesla, which police sources say had been at the lot for two days after it was found abandoned at Bluebird Avenue and Doheny Drive.
Forensics experts have now determined the victim was a girl between 14 and 15 years old, sources said. Authorities did not release her name as they work to locate her next of kin.
The Los Angeles County medical examiner's office has been unable to determine the cause of death.
Police located the body inside a bag placed in the front trunk of the Tesla, LAPD sources said. The body was in a state of decomposition, sources told ABC News.
The vehicle is registered to singer David Anthony Burke, known as D4vd, who has more than 33 million monthly listeners on Spotify and is known for the songs "Here with Me" and "Romantic Homicide."

The girl was described as having wavy black hair, 5 feet 2 inches tall, and weighing 71 pounds. She was found wearing a tube top, black leggings, a yellow metal bracelet and metal stud earrings. She also had a tattoo on her right index finger that said "Shhh..."
Sources told ABC News she appeared to have been dead for some time. Investigators will be relying heavily on the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office to identify the victim and to figure out the cause of death, police sources said.
Last week, investigators intended to talk to the registered owner of the vehicle, as well as anyone else who may be connected to the case, sources said. D4vd is on tour and is said to be cooperating with investigators.
D4vd, who first went viral on TikTok, released his debut album in April. The 20-year-old singer, known for his indie, R&B and alt-pop sound, is currently on tour. He is set to perform in Los Angeles this upcoming Saturday, Sept. 20.
Another body was found in a vehicle at a separate tow yard in Los Angeles, the day after the discovery was made in Hollywood.
The second case involves the body of a woman found in the trunk of a Honda at a South Los Angeles tow yard last Tuesday.

The car had significant fire damage in the trunk area, and the vehicle was registered to a missing person, police said.
During an L.A. police commission meeting on Tuesday, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said the arson death remains under investigation.
"A follow-up investigation at OPG by missing persons units detectives that same day led to the discovery of the body. On Sept. 11, an autopsy was conducted. The decedent was determined to be female. The coroner ruled the death a homicide, finding that it occurred prior to the fire," McDonnell said.
Investigators say there is no evidence that the two cases are connected.
