LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- In the world of Mexican music, Vicente Fernández became a cultural icon. His children followed in his musical footsteps, including his son, Alejandro. And now, Alejandro's daughter is doing the same.

At the age of 27, Camila Fernández is considered one of contemporary Mexican music's most powerful voices, someone now working to take her music beyond the audience already listening to it.

"I want mariachi to be all over the world. I want people to know me, to know my music, to know Mexican culture through my music," she said. "I'm happy to welcome everybody to my community."

There was a time Fernández saw herself singing pop music but she says it didn't come naturally.

And then she got a special request from someone she loved.

"My grandpa told me to record an album in mariachi. He said, 'Please do it for me.' And I said, 'Grandpa, I'll do whatever you want,'" Fernández said.

Now, she has about 60 mariachi songs to call her own.

Fernandez's latest album is called "La Fernández." It digs deep into her mariachi roots, and she hopes the music will dig deep into your soul.

"I always tend to do my version of everything. You know, because I want to be original. I want to be my own, have my own path," she said.

On stage, Fernández is surrounded by the signature sound of mariachi, telling stories about relationships, all with the passion of someone you know is in love with music. Plus, she thinks maybe it's healing when it comes to those bad break-ups.

"It's cheaper and more exciting to go to my concerts than to go to therapy. So if you want to have a good time, you can go to one of my concerts," Fernández said.

The young singer is the solo female voice in the Fernández family musical dynasty, now more than 70-years strong.
