The sisters from El Salvador share an unbreakable bond.
However, on Aug. 23 their lives forever changed due to gun violence.
Eyewitness News interviewed the victims' uncle, who didn't want to show his face on camera.
He said the attacker targeted the car the two victims were in.
He said Adriana and Maria Fernanda were sitting in a car in an alleyway outside of their apartment near Roscoe and Topanga Canyon boulevards in Canoga Park when the gunman walked up.
"It was so tragic. I couldn't believe it," their uncle said.
Adriana, who was set to celebrate her 23rd birthday next week and is 16 weeks pregnant, was shot in the head.
Her uncle said she's been declared brain dead.
"Her birthday is on Sept. 11. That day they were going to do the gender reveal for her baby," he said. "She was in the front, she was driving the car. Sadly, her baby also died."
Also, Maria Fernanda was shot twice including one bullet that went through her neck.
Miraculously, she is expected to be OK.
LAPD continues to investigate the shooting.
The victims' family said a suspect has been arrested.
"The case has nothing to do with gangs," her uncle said. "The suspect is someone who is close to the family. He is known to the family. We don't understand why he made that decision."
A GoFundMe page hopes to raise money for future funeral costs.
The sisters' family says Adriana leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter who they're trying to support through this tragedy.
"That's the hardest part, knowing the little girl calls out for her mom and cries for her," her uncle said.
He added, "We know that we have to be strong, unite as a family and move past this tragedy."
The Jimenez family is trying to raise enough money through that GoFundMe to either cremate Adriana or return her body back to El Salvador.
