CHINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A black Mustang crashed onto the roof of a home in Chino while the homeowners were in bed sleeping early Tuesday morning.

According to the Chino Police Department, the Mustang was heading southbound in the 12600 block of San Antonio Avenue when it hit a curb and the concrete side of the drainage canal. The car careened off a street behind the house, flew over a canal and landed on the backside of the roof.

The impact was so powerful that it knocked down a second-story wall and left a gaping hole.

The homeowners were shaken up, but were not injured.

"It sounded like a plane drove through our house," said Andrea Kobzef. "Woke us up and there's a car parked on the second floor of our home, and it's just devastating."

Kobzef said she saw four people walking out of the car and described them as young kids, possibly in their 20s. She added a car was performing donuts on the street behind the home before the crash.

"Kids do like to do donuts back there... and so we heard a lot of that tonight," said Kobzef. "... Didn't think the car would fly through our house."

Neighbor Francisco Anaya said he and his wife heard the same thing.

"We were laying in bed but we heard a car doing donuts in that cul-de-sac back there," he said. "It stopped and ... maybe like five minutes past. My wife said she heard like a takeoff, and then from there, you just hear this huge like 'Boom!' I was scared, I thought it was like an earthquake."

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Jacob Torrez of Chino, was sent to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Police said the vehicle had three other passengers, including a 19-year-old and two minors, all of whom were also transported to a hospital for injuries.

Investigators said alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
