LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A wild chase through Los Angeles ended on the 91 Freeway in Gardena after the suspect raced down freeways and weaved in and out of rush-hour traffic in a desperate attempt to escape.

AIR7 was over the pursuit around 5 p.m. Friday as the suspect fled in a bright yellow Mustang on the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley.

The suspect transitioned onto the 405 and managed to get to Westchester in a short time. During that span, the suspect drove on the shoulder of the freeway and crisscrossed recklessly through lanes.

At one point, the suspect exited the freeway and sped dangerously through a residential neighborhood in Inglewood with a motorcycle officer trailing close behind.

The chase ended when a rear tire on the Mustang started to come apart and the suspect was forced to flee on a shredded tire. Eventually, the suspect surrendered on the 91 Freeway in the Gardena area.

The driver and a passenger were taken into custody. The pursuit lasted almost an hour.

Authorities say they initially responded to a shoplifting call at a Target in Camarillo. That's when authorities say the suspect allegedly rammed a sheriff's patrol car and a chase began.
