BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- A driver in a pickup truck spun out of control during a wild police chase in Baldwin Park and was later tackled by officers when he tried to run away.

AIR7 was over the pursuit just after 11 p.m. Thursday as the suspect fled on surface streets, making erratic turns on narrow roads while police followed closely behind.

During the chase, the driver lost control of the truck, which spun out. A police cruiser struck the rear of the vehicle, causing it to spin again. Sparks were seen flying as one of the truck's tires was shredded.

The pursuit ended near Walnut and Benwood streets when the driver jumped out of the moving truck and ran.

Officers chased the suspect on foot through an alley before tackling him as he attempted to hop a fence in a nearby backyard.

Police say the driver was a possible robbery suspect.

The truck ended up coming to a stop on a curb after hitting a tree.
