ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- A driver was pronounced dead and a passenger was hospitalized after a pursuit involving Anaheim police ended in a solo-vehicle crash early Friday at a park-and-ride lot in nearby Fullerton, authorities said.

The chase began in the area of Euclid Street and the 5 Freeway when officers witnessed an alleged "narcotics situation" and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and the driver failed to pull over, a spokesperson for the Anaheim Police Department said.

The suspect drove northbound and attempted to hit an officer with the sedan at the park-and-ride at 3000 West Orangethorpe Avenue, near Magnolia Avenue, the spokesperson said.

The driver crashed and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to a hospital after suffering injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police. No officers were involved in the crash or suffered any injuries.

Whether the suspect lost control of the sedan or possibly suffered a medical emergency was under investigation, authorities said. The driver was not immediately identified.
