BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) -- A high-speed chase ended in a head-on collision involving a suspect and a California Highway Patrol vehicle Thursday afternoon in Burbank.

The driver of a Toyota sedan led authorities southbound along the 14 Freeway, at times reaching speeds of 90 mph.

The suspect transitioned to the southbound 5 Freeway in the Sun Valley area and made his way into Burbank. The crash occurred when the sedan made a U-turn and slammed into one of the patrol vehicles that was in pursuit.

Whether the driver or any CHP officers were injured in the collision was unclear.

Officers approached the Toyota with their guns drawn. The man behind the wheel was pulled from the driver's seat, pinned to the ground and handcuffed.

The chase began when the suspect allegedly drove through a traffic break that had been set up in a zone where Caltrans was operating, according to the CHP.
