Chyler Paton, who had just graduated from Culver City High School, was shot and killed on June 18 while picking up his sibling from a pool party in Torrance. When officers responded, they found the teen lying in the driveway of a home.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family along with local community leaders held a press conference Friday, calling for L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn and the Board of Supervisors to introduce a reward motion for information on Paton's murder.
They said Paton planned to study criminal justice and pursue a career in law.
"Chyler was well-respected, he played football, he played basketball and he ran track," said his father Christley Paton. "He was a good kid, smart kid ... never got into any trouble."
Police have not identified a suspect in the case and it's unclear what sparked the shooting.
"How would you feel? Chyler was a good kid," said the teen's mother Tyesha Hansborough as she held back tears. "I just took him to his college orientation the day before. He picked his classes out, and the next day, in a matter of two hours, it was over."
Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact police.
