Cleanup underway in Seal Beach after high surf causes flooding near pier

SEAL BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- The city of Seal Beach is cleaning up after "King Tide" conditions caused flooding overnight.

Video obtained by Eyewitness News shows mud covering a portion of the parking lot near the Seal Beach Pier with water crawling right up to the edge of several beachfront homes.

A high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service will be in effect until 3 a.m. Saturday for Los Angeles and Ventura County beaches. A coastal flood advisory will be in effect until Friday afternoon.

But the high surf didn't stop some people from catching a few early-morning waves.

"We just check the waves and if it's good, or not, we go in the water and just have some fun before we have to go to work," said Tyler Watkins, who went surfing Friday morning.

Earl Carll, who spoke with Eyewitness News on Friday, said he loves watching the waves, but from higher ground.

"I always come down here when the waves are big. It's neat how the ocean is calm one day and the next, it's outrageous," he said. "You just have to respect the ocean."

The Seal Beach Police Department said winter sand berm construction started Wednesday and said that the 1st Street mini-berm is already in place.

Sandbag stations in Seal Beach are stocked and available at the 8th Street Beach Lot and the OCFA Fire Station #44 (Central & 8th).
